WBJ Talk Back In The February 15, 2010 Issue

“Tax credit for new jobs!?!? Small businesses don’t need workers, they need customers! What a ‘great idea’ — have a small business hire someone they don’t have work for at $30,000+ to get a $2,500 tax credit and take a $27,500+ loss for the year on that employee! That is a perfect idea for struggling businesses!”

MC1031 reacting to a proposal from Gov. Deval Patrick to give small businesses a $2,500 tax credit for each new employee.

“It’s interesting how many managers fight to stay in the ‘this is the way I am and I’m not changing my personality to get my staff to do what they should be doing.’ There is a key difference between managers and leaders. Leaders realize it is in their best interest to understand what motivates their staff and treat each staff member as a critical part of the success of the company or department.”

ShariF on a Knowhow piece about the importance of emotional intelligence for managers.

“If tax exemption is such a big competitive advantage as the banks claim, why don’t these same local banks change their charter to a credit union? They all have the ability to do that. Why don’t they? Hmmmm… The banks never seem to have an answer for that. It’s because it’s not as big an advantage as banks want you to believe.”

JAR on an article looking into the tension between banks and credit unions in Massachusetts.
