WBJ Podcast: Dr. Mark Johnson & the fight against racism

When he was attending grade school, Dr. Mark Johnson, now chair of neurosurgery at UMass Memorial Health Care, he was regularly attacked for being a black student in a mostly white school. During a road trip after his high school graduation, he and his family came under gunfire from a group of men at a rest stop. Even as he ascended the ranks of Harvard University, racism was still part of his life.

In the wake of the police killing of unarmed Minneapolis man George Floyd and the subsequent protests against institutional racism, Dr. Johnson said Central Massachusetts business leaders have an important role to play in creating real change, and he was encouraged the leaders of UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester have come out strongly in favor of change.
