On Wednesday, Katherine Hamilton joined the Worcester Business Journal newsroom, as a reporter primarily covering the real estate and healthcare industries.
"Both of these industries are foundational to the Central Massachusetts economy, and we at WBJ have hired a great journalist who will bring truth and insight in both to our audience," WBJ Editor Brad Kane said. "WBJ readers will soon discover Katherine's thoughtfulness and understanding of different points of view will enhance their own perception of this region's business community."
A Worcester resident who grew up in Stow, Hamilton most recently worked as a writer for the non-partisan political website RepresentUs, which focuses on anti-corruption and government transparency. The board of RepresentUs is composed of a mix of activists, including actress Jennifer Lawrence, director Adam McKay, and Caroline Moon from the Broad Institute of Harvard & MIT.
While working at RepresentUs, Hamilton obtained her master's degree in community development and planning from Clark University in Worcester, where she was the editor in chief at the student newspaper The Scarlet. She earned her bachelor's degree in international development and social change from Clark.
Her prior work experiences include serving as the communication coordinator for the Main South Community Development Corp. in Worcester and then previously as a research intern at Worcester Regional Research Bureau.
"It's incredible to see independent journalism still flourishing at publications like WBJ," Hamilton said. "I'm so thrilled to become part of this team and start covering this unique region that I've been lucky enough to call home my whole life."
