When Worcester Business Journal 23 years ago first considered creating a 40 Under Forty award, the concern at the time was whether Central Massachusetts had enough high-quality young professionals to make the effort worthwhile and if that process of selecting the best and the brightest would be repeatable year and year.

Looking at the 40 Under Forty, Class of 2022, that concept is just plain laughable.

Central Massachusetts is brimming with young talent, as scores of people have achieved much in a relatively short period of time, while scores more have the potential to do great things. At its heart, this is what the 40 Under Forty is all about: showcasing people who’ve had early success in their careers and hold the promise of having an even bigger impact. Occasionally, that potential is squandered, but more often than not, it is realized toward the collective good of the economy and community.

Volumes could be written about the already impressive achievements of the Class of 2022.: the Ecuadorian native who has found a home at Clark University, engaging with communities of color and developing youth education programming; the tech founder who developed a battery recycling company now building a $1-billion facility; the youngest mayor in Gardner’s history; the nonprofit executive fighting for better pay for human services workers; the CEO of a brewery so popular that its fans drive hundreds of miles to buy its products; the immigrant who came to Central Massachusetts 18 years ago with little more than a suitcase and is now helping to run a city of 42,000; the builder of 1 million square feet of new school construction.

As you’ll see, all 40 members of this year’s class have an impressive story to tell. If you would like to join them in celebrating their accomplishments and their potential for future impact, WBJ would like to invite you to the 40 Under Forty ceremony, taking place Sept. 14 at Mechanics Hall in Worcester. The event recognizes the best and the brightest at the top of their game, and they always leave us wanting more.
