Sense Biodetection, a COVID-19 testing firm with a facility in Milford, has been acquired by Watertown-based Sherlock Biosciences, a diagnostic testing company that has raised $111 million, including from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The financial terms of the acquisition, which was announced Feb. 1, were not disclosed.Â
Sense is headquartered in Oxford, England. It launched its first product, a COVID-19 test called Veros COVID-19. It is being sold in Europe and South America. Sense is developing more tests for infectious diseases. The company was founded in 2014 by brothers Ralph and Harry Lamble.
Sherlock is a biotech company that is developing diagnostic tests. It was founded in 2019 and came out of the Cambridge-based Eli and Edythe L. Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. In November, the company received a $6-million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to advance its rapid, instrument-free molecular diagnostic testing platform.
In March 2022, Sherlock announced it received $80 million in a Series B financing. The round was led by Hampton, New Hampshire-based Novalis LifeSciences LLC. Sherlock raised $111 million in total funding after the Series B round.
