Waters Corp., a Milford-based manufacturer of scientific equipment, has opened a new global capacity center in Bengaluru, India, one of the company’s rapidly growing markets.
The new $16-million facility will employ more than 300 people with the goal of accelerating technological adoption and innovation, according to a press release issued by the company on Wednesday. The new global capacity center, located within a WELL and LEED Platinum-certified technology park, will allow the company to take on roles previously outsourced to outside service providers.
"India continues to be one of our fastest growing markets and a key location for the talent that we need to drive global customer success and innovation forward," Udit Batra, president and CEO of Waters, said in the press release. "The Waters India GCC is an integrated extension of our global team, serving as a center of excellence across areas such as software engineering, technology and product development.”
Bengaluru, also known as Bangalore, is a rapidly growing tech hub attracting some of the world’s most prominent companies, including Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft. Other tenants of the city’s RMZ Ecoworld technology park include Honeywell International, a North Carolina-based advanced manufacturer, and KPMG International, a multinational accounting firm based in the Netherlands, according to those company’s websites.
"Opening the Waters GCC is a significant milestone for our team in India. We chose Bengaluru because of the availability and depth of talent, the friendly business environment, and its close proximity to our customers," T AnilKumar, general manager of Waters India, said in the statement.
Waters Corp. became one of the first analytical instruments companies to open in India in 1988, according to the release. The company’s presence has since grown to more than 430 employees, with the company servicing more than 2,300 laboratories across the country.
Founded in 1958 in a basement office of the Framingham police station, Waters Corp. constructed its headquarters in Milford in 1973. The company employs more than 3,000 employees in 35 countries, according to its website.
