Shareholders of Milford scientific technology firm Waters Corp. got some good news Tuesday as the company’s second quarter earnings included a 21-percent bump in per share earnings.
Diluted earnings increased to $1.98 from $1.63 for the same period last year. For the first half of the year, that mark is up 15 percent over last year to $3.39.
The company said its sales are up 7 percent for both the quarter and the first half of the year, marks of $596.2 million and $1.1 billion, respectively.
The company’s profit also jumped more than 18 percent in the quarter to about $155.7 million. For the year, the company is netting $267.6 million, an increase of nearly 13 percent.
For the year, pharmaceutical sales grew 7 percent and governmental and academic sales grew by 13 percent. Industrial market sales grew only 3 percent.
For the year, the company’s strongest geographical area has been Asia, where sales are up by 6 percent for the year to $437.2 million.
European sales of $309 million are up 13 percent, but sales in this hemisphere were up only 2 percent to almost $380 million.
