Walker Lofts, a 62-unit apartment complex at the former Walker Shoe Factory in Worcester, will officially open with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, the City of Worcester announced in a Monday press release.
The redevelopment of the 150-year-old former factory was first announced in 2019 when Chelsea-based developer Anthony Rossi bought the property at 28 Water St. for $660,000.
Rossi is also redeveloping buildings on Hermon Street to become zero-carbon housing complexes. The adapted buildings will include 57 units, according to Worcester Planning Board minutes, and are under construction.
All 62 units in the Walker Lofts complex are one-bedroom, market-rate studio apartments. The complex is located at the end of Water Street about two blocks from a proposed 415-unit high-rise on Franklin Street, which is awaiting City approval.
The Walker ribbon cutting will be attended by Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito, City Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, and City Manager Edward Augustus.
Another success story due to the construction of Polar Park.
