Water company lowers Millbury, Oxford bills

The private company that provides water to Millbury and Oxford is passing along savings from a revised tax classification to nearly 19,000 households, including customers in those two Central Massachusetts towns.

Aquarion Water Co. (AWC) said the 3.23-percent credit on homeowner, business and municipal water bills will run through the end of 2015. The savings come from a $410,000 tax credit as a result of a change in how the Internal Revenue Service allows the company to account for infrastructure investments.

The Massachusetts’ Department of Public Utilities (DPU) approved a proposal by AWC to pass that credit along to its customers, the company said.

“We saw a unique opportunity to reduce rates, and we are pleased that we were able to do this for our customers in Oxford and Millbury,” Charles Firlotte, AWC president and CEO, said in a statement.
