Local officials and representatives from Boston-based renewable energy company First Wind will mark the completion of a 14-megawatt solar project in Warren on June 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Located at three sites in the Town of Warren, the project is the second-largest in Massachusetts, according to First Wind. Monday’s ceremony will also mark the beginning of commercial operations at the Warren sites. First Wind also completed a 3-megawatt solar project in Millbury last month.
Most of the power generated at sites in Millbury and Warren will be delivered to the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and UMass Medical School in Worcester, the company said, which will result in about $1 million in annual energy savings.
Warren will receive $130,000 in annual tax benefits from First Wind in exchange for use of the land, First Wind said.
