After running for president early in her second term, Sen. Elizabeth Warren on Monday declared she will seek a third term in the U.S. Senate in 2024.
Warren has faced little competition from Massachusetts Democrats and cruised past Republicans Scott Brown in 2012 and Geoff Diehl in 2018, before launching her run for president in 2020.
With the election not scheduled until late 2024, her campaign pinpointed the following objectives for a third term: "deliver results for the Commonwealth, end corruption in Washington, make our economy work for the middle class, and protect our democracy."
"I first ran for Senate because I saw how the system is rigged for the rich and powerful and against everyone else. I won because Massachusetts voters know it, too. And now I'm running for Senate again because there’s a lot more we've got to do," Warren said in a video released by her campaign announcing her candidacy. "Pass a wealth tax. Make child care affordable. Protect our coastal communities. Build a 21st century transportation system across all of Massachusetts. Oh, and like I've been saying for years — put stricter rules on banks so they don’t crash and hurt working people."
In a MassINC Polling Group survey taken earlier this year, more people in the aggregate viewed Warren unfavorably (36 percent) or were undecided about her (17 percent), than viewed her favorably (41 percent).
