Wal-Mart says it plans to enter the electronic health records market with help from Dell computers and Westborough-based medical records software firm eClinicalWorks.
According to a report in the New York Times, Wal-Mart would target doctors in small offices by offering Dell computers and eClinicalWorks software at its Sam’s Club stores. The package would also include installation, maintenance and training.
Wal-Mart estimates that the package will cost $25,000 for the first physician at any practice and about $10,000 for each additional physician. Training and support will cost between $4,000 and $6,500 per year.
Sam’s Club claims about 200,000 health care providers among its 47 million members.
