The company that runs the Wachusett Mountain ski area must pay $8,500 for burning debris that included treated wood and plastic last spring.
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection fined Wachusett Mountain Associates Inc. of Princeton after a forest fire warden caught a company employee burning the garbage on April 26. The company had an open burning permit from the local fire department, but it was only authorized to burn forestry debris.
The company agreed to comply with regulations and pay the full penalty in a consent order that was finalized recently.
