Wachusett Brewing Co. in Westminster has partnered with a renowned Irish beermaker to release a New England-style stout, his first partnership with a U.S. craft brewer.
The beer, titled “The Fergal Project” is named after Irish brewer Fergal Murray, the former Guinness master brewer who has partnered with Wachusett for the beer, which is the first in Wachusett’s 1794 series.
The 1794 series is a homage to the year that the October Farm was built. The farm is the symbol of the Wachusett brand.
The beer features the same American hops featured in Wachusett’s Wally IPA, and combines that with classic Irish malts made famous by the Guinness brand.
Christian McMahan, president of Wachusett Brewing Company, said he’s known Murray for almost 15 years.
“When we talked about the launch of this new collaboration series, there was no one else I wanted us to work more than Fergal,” McMahan said in a statement. “His knowledge of the stout category is second to none.”
Murray, in a statement, said he’s kept an eye on Wachusett’s growth.
“I love working with people that are passionate about beer and certainly found that with everyone I met at their brewery,” Murray said. “The whole creative process was a pleasure.”
The beer will be released on draft and in four-pack 16-ounce cans starting Friday.
