Wachusett Brewing Co. has quietly begun construction on a 4,000-square-foot expansion in Westminster to replace its tented event space and add a new kitchen.
The space, expected to be open this summer, will allow the brewery to increase its guest capacity by about 400 people and improve its food menu via a new pizza oven.
A second bar will be built in the new building to accommodate the increased guest capacity and an outdoor space will be expanded.
The Westminster brewery, now the 43rd largest U.S. craft brewer, opened an indoor brew yard in December 2017 and the demand for the on-site experience continued to grow, said President Christian McMahan.
“It created a demand for something that wasn’t really in the market,” he said.
The brewery had previously erected a tented area for live music and other events, but that solution wasn’t temporary.
Since the brew yard was opened, more than 100,000 guests have visited the brewery, which previously operated just a small tasting room.
“We weren’t expecting the response we’ve gotten,” McMahan said.
The news of the expansion comes shortly after the brewery said it is relaunching its like of hard seltzers and unveiling its first ever line of hard ciders.
