Wachusett Brewing Co. of Westminster has launched a new alcoholic seltzer in a nationwide roll-out as the firm expands into an entirely new branch of brewing.
The new product line is called Nauti Seltzer. It is a low-calorie alternative to alcoholic sodas and beer-alternatives that have become popular recently, said Ned LaFortune, founder and president of Wachusett. While Wachusett is a regional brewer, with distribution in New England and New York, plans are for this new product to go nationwide.
“The reception has been staggering. We are getting emails from all over the country. We are getting emails from massive retailers wanting to get it in," LaFortune said.
The clear malt-base formula required to build the seltzers on has been the company’s greatest technical undertaking, he said. It represents a further diversification for the company that also includes contract brewing for other companies. This new product is now scheduled for 4 million annual case production, said LaFortune.
The product will be distributed under the company name Craft Cocktail Co. and hit store shelves this week. Currently distributed to liquor stores, interest has been high from retailers such as Whole Foods, Walmart and Target, said LaFortune.
