Worcester latex product manufacturer Vystar has secured a Brazilian patent for nonallergenic rubber latex in the home country of one of the largest suppliers of latex.
The country is the native home of the Havea Brasiliensis, the natural source of rubber dubbed the rubber tree. Brazil, once the dominant supplier of latex, is now the 10th largest supplier, according to Vystar.
“This notice of allowance provides important intellectual property protection for Vystar in the Brazilian market as we build relationships with latex producers and manufacturers there who are aggressively attempting to expand," CEO Steve Rotman said in a statement. "Now that they’ve developed a fungus-resistant variety of Hevea Brasiliensis and more economical latex harvesting methods, they are well on their way to regaining lost ground.”
Vystar says its main product, Vytex, is raw material with significantly reduced levels of proteins found in natural rubber latex the company wants to bring to several markets, like adhesives, gloves, balloons, condoms, medical devices, mattresses and pillows.
