VNA Care CEO to retire

Mary Ann O'Connor, the CEO of VNA Care for the past five years, will retire in January.
Mary Ann O'Connor, the president and CEO of VNA Care, will retire in January, the Worcester agency announced Thursday.
O'Connor has been the head of the nonprofit since 2012, a period including the acquisition that year of UMass Memorial Home Care & Hospice. O'Connor also started a behavioral health program for homebound patients, and led a partnership with Atrius Health and Medically Home Group for a new service called Medically Home, which adds remote monitoring and video appointments to in-home care.
VNA Care provides home nursing care to 50,000 patients a year across Central Massachusetts and much of Eastern Massachusetts, and has hospice facilities in Worcester, Cambridge and Needham. The Worcester facility, Rose Monahan Hospice Home, opened in 1997.
The company, which started 125 years ago, operates in more than 200 communities and has about 1,200 employees, including nurses, social workers, nutritionists, home health aides, and physical, occupational and speech therapists.
VNA Care's home nursing care provides aid to people recovering from injuries or illnesses, or those with chronic conditions.
VNA Care has hired a Burlington search firm, Witt Kieffer, to help find O'Connor's replacement.
