Vestas To Lay Off 2K
Vestas, the Denmark-based wind power company that recently broke ground in November for a research and development facility in Marlborough, will lay off 2,335 employees worldwide.
The company said it's also considering laying off an additional 1,600 workers in the U.S. if the country's production tax credit, which rewards producers of wind power and other renewable energy, is not extended.
Vestas said the initial 2,335 layoffs will reduce its fixed costs by more than 150 million Euros starting early this year. The reductions will include streamlining support functions and closing some factories.
The $16 million Marlborough site is slated to add 66 jobs and is scheduled to open in the summer.
