Vander Hooven approved as next MWCC president

Contributed/MWCC Dr. James Vander Hooven will take over at Mount Wachusett Community College president on March 19.

The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education voted Tuesday to approve Dr. James Vander Hooven as the third president of Mount Wachusett Community College, during a special meeting in Boston. He will take over the position March 19.

Vander Hooven will replace current President Daniel M. Asquino, who announced his retirement last year and will remain at the college in Gardner through a transition period.

Vander Hooven has extensive past experience in educational leadership, most recently working as the vice president for enrollment management at Landmark College in Putney, Vt.

Vander Hooven has also previously served as president at Tohono O’odham Community College in Tucson, Ariz. where he raised more than $9 million for the construction of Tohono O’odham Community College’s new main campus.

MWCC has approximately 12,000 credit and noncredit students.
