Framingham-based uTest, which tests software and mobile applications, announced Tuesday it will change the company’s name to Applause in 2014.
According to a statement posted on the company website Tuesday afternoon, the change is intended to illustrate uTest's increased focus on application quality, which evolved to meet the needs of clients. That included the acquisition of the Polish app quality tools firm Apphance in 2012, and the launch of Applause Analytics in the first quarter of 2013, which allows companies to listen to feedback from app users.
“With this expanded audience and offering, the name uTest, which has served us so well for (more than five) years, has become less accurate when describing our overall approach to app quality,” the uTest statement read. “While nothing is changing now, work is already underway and the transition will be complete within the first few months of 2014.”
Services to uTest's existing clients will not be impacted by the name change, according to the company. And uTest will retain its current name as one of its brands. The company said it plans to expand its pool of 100,000 testers, which provide testing services on a contract basis globally. That effort will begin in the first half of 2014, uTest said. Meanwhile, the company will also expand its services for its testers to include new networking, professional development and education opportunities.
