U.S. unemployment claims down

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 301,000 Americans filed for unemployment insurance benefits for the first time during the week ended Jan. 12.

That’s a decrease of 21,000 from the previous week’s unrevised figure of 322,000. The 4-week moving average was 328,500, a decrease of 11,750 from the previous week.
