UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester fell one spot down in 2023 in the U.S. News and World Report’s list of best hospitals in Massachusetts but still stayed among the top five in the state.
Now fifth on the list, down from fourth in 2022, UMass Memorial is still the only Central Massachusetts hospital to break into the top 10 in the state, according to the U.S. News ranking released Tuesday.
As the largest hospital in Central Massachusetts when ranked by number of licensed beds, UMass Memorial has 749 licensed beds, 8,411 employees, and its parent organization UMass Memorial Health had $2.14 billion in revenue in 2023, according to WBJ’s Research Department. UMass Memorial Health President and CEO Dr. Eric Dickson is the highest-paid nonprofit CEO in Central Massachusetts when ranked by total compensation for the most fiscal year available, earning nearly $3.1 million in the fiscal year ending in Sept. 30 2022.
As the second largest hospital in Central Massachusetts, Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester ranked 11th on the U.S. News list. Saint Vincent has 290 licensed beds and 1,600 employees.

11. Winchester Hospital in Winchester (tied)
13. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth in Plymouth
14. Salem Hospital in Salem
