Looking for a place to get away for the Labor Day weekend? American travelers are overwhelmingly planning to visit major cities in the United States, according to Priceline.com.
Priceline's annual list of the top 50 destinations for the last long holiday weekend of the summer does not include any European cities. New York City's Midtown West area is the most popular destination, followed by Chicago's North Michigan Avenue/River North Area. The only non-U.S. city on the list is Montreal.
Boston's Quincy Market area makes the list at No. 17, in between two cities in Georgia: Atlanta (No. 16) and Savannah (No. 18). Other Boston-area attractions on the list include Cambridge (No. 22), Providence (No. 24), the Boston waterfront (No. 28) and Copley Square (No. 31).
Priceline's survey is based on hotel booking requests for the Labor Day weekend that have been made on the website. Priceline said this could be a boost for restaurants, theaters and retailers over the holiday weekend.
