I love saying, “Up yours” to people, and I mean it in the most respectful and courteous way. In fact, I offer it as a challenge to clients and friends, as now to you as well. “Up Yours,” I say! I challenge you to embrace the truth that success is a habit, and you may be due for a habit exam. A mindful review of our habits always leads to improvements when pursuit of happiness is forefront, and action steps follow.
This article may prompt you to start making even better decisions each day, which will lead to better outcomes in business and in life. If you are driven to bring your best game to life each day, or that of your team, all you need is an open mind, a sense of worthiness, and a commitment to honestly examine your habits, your past habits which brought better results you now enjoy, and to adopt new habits.
Hopefully, you have already said “Up yours” to your 2022 new year’s resolutions and you can now say “Up yours” as a global intention driving your focused efforts. How do you ratchet up your game in this distracted, high-anxiety world? Well, you start by being true to yourself, knowing yourself, what you want and why, and develop the confidence and courage to make forward progress.
Tap into your powerful mind right now and imagine yourself just a mere 10% more successful, or 10% happier. Visualize yourself calmer, more relaxed, and in more control of your emotions, with greater clarity of mind. Connecting with what you want makes it so easy to take back control and make some positive changes.
Consider a few key questions. What do you want, really? Are you willing to raise the bar and hold yourself accountable for even the tiniest of changes? Are you afraid of changing? What are you willing to change, even slightly? Whether you sense a complete overhaul or simply need some fine tuning, adopt these strategies:
• Take the slow-and-steady approach as you audit your habits and decide what needs to change.
• Visualize a successful outcome, train properly for skills development in the areas you want to change, and mentally rehearse your performance.
• Learn the life skill called self-hypnosis for greater focus and concentrated effort. Hypnotism is a proven tool in helping with transformational change work.
• Learn to become more mindful, focused on enjoying each day while you make forward progress.
Master your emotions so you are always in control, relaxed, and able to respond well to any situation. Disciplined athletes and business leaders know this.
• Surround yourself with positive people and study the habits of those you admire. Commit to learning and adopting best practices for your industry, your sport, your profession, and in personal relationships.
• Acknowledge your inner self, as part of loving yourself, with the goal of becoming more aware of the changes making good sense for you.
Learn to live in the present with an eye on your intentions already being realized. This mindful focus and attention, mixed with visualization and mental rehearsal of the outcome you desire will move your mind, body, and spirit to make daily progress. Commit to the habit change to bring the results you want for yourself.
Striving to up our game is the goal here. We cannot bring our A-game every day, but as our head hits the pillow each night and we reflect on the day just past and the one ahead, we can reflect and use the famous Emile Coué affirmation, “Every day and in every way, I am better and better.” Try it.
I have prepared a report for readers, including a 19-point self-audit that may help you prioritize your areas needing your attention. Reach out if you want a copy.
