Unum Group and its 625 employees in Worcester will open for businesses at its new location in the new CitySquare development Monday morning.
The Tennessee-based insurance provider will move over the weekend from its location at 18 Chestnut St. to the new 7-story, office building at 1 Mercantile Pl., opposite the DCU Center, according to company spokeswoman M.C. Guenther.
The building was developed in partnership by Leggat McCall and Hanover Insurance, and was sold in December by the investment arm of The Hanover Insurance Group to Benderson Development Co., a real estate management and investment firm in Sarasota, Fla.
Benderson is one of the largest privately held real estate companies in the U.S. It owns and manages more than 700 properties encompassing more than 40 million square feet in 38 states. Its portfolio includes retail, office, industrial, hotel, residential, and land holdings, including Highfield Commons in Berlin and a CVS store in Wayland.
Benderson purchased the 214,000-square-foot building and the adjacent, 860-car Parking garage at the northeast end of the CitySquare site.
Unum’s new building was designed by Arrowstreet, based in Somerville.
