Unitil, the New Hampshire-based utility company that serves parts of Central Massachusetts, raked in profits of $1.6 million in the second quarter, slightly down from $1.7 million for Q2 2007.
The company said its natural gas sales margin increased $200,000 in the last quarter and $1.1 million in the last six months compared to 2007, mainly because of higher gas base rates. Gas sales volume decreased 4.6 percent for the quarter.
An increase in electric base rates also helped the company’s earnings, partially offsetting a drop in sales. Still, the electric sales margin decreased by $400,000.
