Unitil Corp., the New Hampshire-based utility that covers part of North Central Massachusetts, plans to increase its basic service rate for the summer.
The change would mean a 1.5 percent increase for residential customers using 500 kWh per month. The increase will vary depending on rate classes and usage.
Unitil said the increase is a result of higher wholesale energy costs. The company filed for the rate hike with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and it expects the changes to take effect June 1.
The company provides electricity to 28,000 customers in Fitchburg, Townsend, Lunenburg and Ashby.
