After nine years in her executive director role at United Way of South Central Massachusetts in Southbridge, Mary O’Coin has announced she will retire at the end of the year.

“Mary’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in shaping the United Way of South Central MA into a thriving organization. Her dedication to our mission has improved the lives of countless individuals in our community,” Alycia Dzik, UWSCM board chair, said in the release. “While we will miss her, we are confident that the strong foundation she has built will ensure our continued success.”

Under O’Coin’s leadership, the nonprofit has raised and invested nearly $4 million in programs to support the health, education, and financial stability of the South Central Massachusetts community, according to a Sept. 12 press release from UWSCM. In 2020, she oversaw the merger of the United Ways of Webster and Dudley as they came under the UWSCM purview.

“It has been an honor to serve as executive director of the United Way of South Central MA. I am immensely proud of the positive change we have brought to our communities. As I look forward to retirement, I am confident that the organization is well-positioned for continued growth and impact,” O’Coin said in the release.

The UWSCM board of directors is in the process of searching for O’Coin’s successor having posted the executive director job listing on its website on Wednesday. The listing includes a yearly salary range of $60,000 - $67,000.

O’Coin will continue her role until UWSCM has selected and onboarded her replacement, which the organization expects will be later this year.

UWSCM accumulated $1.02 million in revenue in fiscal 2023 and had $1.07 million in assets, according to the nonprofit financial tracking service GuideStar.
