After 40 years located in the Denholm Building on Worcester’s Main Street, the United Way of Central Massachusetts has moved to 18 Chestnut St.
The United Way joins the Worcester Community Action Council and Easterseals Massachusetts at the site. The move was announced Saturday in an email from Tim Garvin, president and CEO of the United Way of Central Massachusetts.
The organization is celebrating its 103rd anniversary on Jan. 23. As of fiscal 2020, the organization had more than $7 million in revenue and $8.8 million in assets, according to Guidestar by Candid.
The move comes as the City of Worcester seeks proposals to redevelop the ailing Denholm Building, once a prominent department store. In August, the Worcester Redevelopment Authority purchased the site for $3 million.
The Denholm Building was home to individual organizations, many nonprofits, who have relocated or will relocate from the building, including a U.S. Postal Service location.
The former Unum Building, and before that The Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. Building at 18 Chestnut St., is owned by the Krock family through Chestnut Street Properties LLC. The corporation bought the 300,000-square-foot building in 2018 for $1.9 million. The Krock family owns several high-profile properties in downtown Worcester and elsewhere in the city, including the Central Building at 332 Main St.
