Bidding has opened for construction of the $39.3-million Union Station center platform project in Worcester, according to a public announcement from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.
The bid opened on Wednesday and will remain open until Sept. 9, with a site tour scheduled for Aug. 19, according to MBTA.
The project is meant to improve infrastructure and accessibility at Worcester’s station, which connects travelers to the MBTA commuter rail, Amtrak, buses, and taxis. Construction will include a new center island station platform, elevators, pedestrian bridges, and communication systems, among other changes, the MBTA’s announcement said.
The bid for the project includes a goal of using 20% of the revenue for contractors registered as disadvantaged business enterprises.
Commuter line and freight line services will continue to operate during construction.
