Unemployment falls weekly

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits for the first time last week fell to its lowest level in nearly two months, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

In the week ending July 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted first-time unemployment insurance claims was 308,000, a decrease of 12,000 from the previous week.

The 4-week moving average was 317,750, a decrease of 1,500 from the previous week.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending June 30, unchanged from the prior week.

The advance seasonally adjusted number of unemployed during the week ending June 30 was 2,554,000, a decrease of 4,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,558,000.
