Unemployment Claims Up

More Americans filed for unemployment benefits last week than the week before, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Initial claims for unemployment totaled 429,000, an increase of 9,000 week-to-week. It was the largest increase this month.

The four-week moving average for new unemployment claims remained unchanged at 426,250.

There were 7.5 million people collecting unemployment insurance payments across the United States, according to the latest tally taken earlier this month.
