An unclaimed property auction organized by State Treasurer Steven Grossman begins Saturday. The online auction will take place on eBay.com, where participants will be able to bid on items including jewelry, watches, gold, silver, and collectible currency.
According to Grossman’s office, most items were collected from safe deposit boxes that have gone unclaimed for at least nine years.
In an effort to reunite owners with items, Grossman conducted a traveling showcase across Massachusetts. That ends today at the state lottery offices in Worcester at 5 p.m..
The auction will be the eighth the state has run on eBay to liquidate unclaimed property, according to Grossman’s office. Revenue generated from the auctions supports the state’s General Fund. Last year’s auction raised about $434,000.
About 2,000 items are expected to be put out to bid over the next two months, according to Grossman’s office.
