Douglas Brown, UMass Memorial Health Care's senior vice president and general counsel, will be the interim president of Marlborough Hospital when John Polanowicz leaves next month.
Polanowicz is departing Marlborough Hospital to serve as president and CEO of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, a Caritas Health Care hospital located in Brighton.
Brown will assume the leadership position at Marlborough Hospital on May 6. Brown has worked for the UMass system for eight years and before that led the state's Medicaid program under former Gov. Mitt Romney.
Brown will remain in his general counsel and SVP role throughout the search for a permanent CEO, which hospital officials expect to take about six months. The process will be led by Richard Bennett, chairman of the Marlborough Hospital board of directors, and a handful of other hospital trustees.
Marlborough Hospital is a member of the UMass Memorial Health Care system, along with UMass Memorial Medical Center, Clinton Hospital, HealthAlliance Hospital and Wing Memorial Hospital.
