Mary Hsieh, the former managing director of Medicare practice at Michigan-based Health Management Associates, was appointed CEO of the new Worcester-based Medicare Advantage health plan, Mass Advantage, according to a press release on Thursday.
Hsieh will be the first CEO of Mass Advantage, a new health plan for Worcester County residents, which launched Sept. 8 and is owned by UMass Memorial Health Ventures, Inc. in Worcester, Shields Managed Care Solutions, LLC in Stoughton, and WCAS CM Holdings LLC of Delaware.
In her previous position at HMA, Hsieh helped the national research and consulting firm expand its Medicare advisory services, according to the press announcement. She previously oversaw market strategy and Medicaid expansion at California health group Kaiser Permanente.
Hsieh holds a doctor of pharmacy from the University of California, San Francisco, a master’s degree in public health from UC Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from UC Davis.
Mass Advantage will be available to Medicare-eligible Worcester County residents starting Oct. 15, with coverage beginning Jan. 1.
