UMass Memorial Medical Center’s chief of endovascular and vascular surgery, Dr. Andres Schanzer, was appointed president of the New England Society for Vascular Surgery, according to a Wednesday press release from the Worcester hospital.
The NESVS is the first regional organization of its kind in the country, per the release.
In this new role, Schanzer will lead surgeons throughout New England and parts of New York in striving to achieve the highest level of patient care in the field, encouraging mentorship, educating those entering the field, and staying at the forefront of research and treatment, according to UMass Memorial Medical Center.
In addition to leading UMass Memorial’s vascular surgery team, Schanzer has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, serves as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Vascular Surgery, and is a distinguished fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery where he serves as a director on the Vascular Surgery Board.
Schanzer earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine.
UMass Memorial vascular surgeon, Jessica Simons, MD, was also appointed to the NESVS and will serve on the executive council as recorder.
