UMass Memorial to host health equity forum

UMass Memorial Health Care will host a forum Thursday morning on health equity, including racial disparities in health care in Central Massachusetts and elsewhere.

The Worcester-based hospital system will be streamed live from 11 a.m. to noon on UMass Memorial's Facebook page. The public is invited to log on and ask questions of the panelists.

The event will be moderated by Gina Plata Niño, an attorney with Central-West Justice Center, a firm with offices in Worcester and Western Massachusetts that provides free legal aid for low-income and immigrant households.

Panelists are: 

  • Dr. Eric W. Dickson, president and CEO of UMass Memorial Health Care
  • Congressman Jim McGovern, 2nd Congressional District of Massachusetts
  • Dr. Matilde Castiel, City of Worcester Commissioner of Health and Human Services
  • Dr. Sarai Rivera, Worcester City Councilor and Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Health
  • Dr. Tayyaba Salman, a hospitalist at UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital and a member of its Minority Advisory Council
