UMass Memorial Health is adding a new management position to its team, as the Worcester-based hospital system is searching for its inaugural chief of medical management.
UMass Memorial posted the job listing for a senior medical director, chief of medical management on both its website and Indeed.
“This position is responsible for shaping clinical policies, enhancing recruitment and retention efforts, and fostering collaboration among healthcare providers, administrative staff, and external stakeholders,” said the posting.
The position is the first of its kind for the hospital system, said Kristy Lee, media and public relations manager at UMass Memorial. The system didn’t provide any additional information on the role or the reason for its creation.
The system is offering between $280,000 and $320,000 for the position, whose objective is to provide clinical leadership and strategic planning in order to assure UMass Memorial attracts and retains talent while providing high-quality medical care patient safety, according to the posting.
UMass Memorial is searching for a candidate who has graduated from an accredited medical school with board certification who has served in a related management position for three years.
The system’s new job posting comes after UMass Memorial eliminated its chief diversity, equity & inclusion officer role in April—a move UMass Memorial said was part of reorganization efforts to strengthen its commitment to DEI.
In March, UMass Memorial entered into a hiring pause for all non-clinical, non-patient-facing roles. That same month, the system closed primary care operations at one of its Worcester behavioral health clinics after previously shuttering primary care operations at a Leominster location in September 2024.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article said the chief of medical management position is a C-Suite role. It is not.
