The Muscular Dystrophy Association, a national health organization, has added a care center at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester to its network, along with 12 other centers across the country, according to a Thursday press release from MDA.

The UMass care center will be part of the medical center’s Duchenne Program, which is devoted to extending and enhancing the lives of people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, according to UMass’s website.

UMass also received a Care Center grant award from MDA, though the amount was not disclosed.

MDA has more than 150 care center affiliates in the U.S., all focused on supporting people with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular disease.

Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston was also one of the 13 new affiliates added to MDA’s network.
