UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester is loosening visitor restrictions for non-coronavirus patients at a time when virus patients are becoming far fewer in number.
Starting Wednesday, the hospital is now allowing one visitor at a time during dedicated visitation hours between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. For months, the hospital had not been allowing visitors for any patients, before making some exceptions including for those in end-of-life care, whose visitors were given very tight restrictions, with a maximum of two visitors for a one-time visit limited to 30 minutes.
Patients who've tested positive for coronavirus or are under investigation for the virus will still not be allowed visitors. Exceptions have included birth partners, parents of patients under the age of 18, and companions for patients with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
All visitors must still adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing a mask upon entry to the hospital, sanitizing hands before visiting with a patient, and being screened for coronavirus symptoms.
