UMass Memorial Health Care’s injury prevention center has received a $48,000 grant from Allstate Insurance Co. The funding will help the health care system continue a two-year-old program that teaches teenagers about the consequences of risky driving decisions.
UMass said the program includes interactive virtual education, utilizing driving simulators that can demonstrate a teenager’s actual versus perceived driving skill under challenging driving conditions, such as texting and peer distractions. Teens will also experience the effects of impairment such as with alcohol, fatigue or medications.
