Gina Plata–Nino and Sarai Rivera have been named to the board of directors at UMass Memorial Health – Harrington.
Gina Plata-Nino is a local attorney at the Central West Justice Center in Worcester. She works on policy matters affecting low-income families, elders and persons with disabilities, according to a press release announcing the newly elected board members. Plato-Nino is the co-founder and president of the Oon-Jai Foundation, a nonprofit organization seeking to alleviate poverty in Southeast Asia by promoting practical, sustainable, healthy living.
Worcester City Councilor Sarai Rivera was also elected to the board. She is serving a sixth two-year term as District Four xouncilor working professionally within the Worcester community in the field of human services and mental health.
“We are extremely thrilled to have these two members as part of our board,” Mike Engel, board chair for UMass Memorial Health – Harrington, said in the release. “Diversity is an integral element of our core mission, values, strategies, and key initiatives. We continue to recruit community leaders like Gina Plata–Nino and Sarai Rivera to serve on our various boards who represent the diverse communities that we serve.”
