The graduate programs UMass Medical School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute are among the best in the nation for medicine, research, nursing and engineering, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report lists released Tuesday.
UMass Medical School in Worcester ranked 14th of all primary care graduate medicine programs. The school also ranked 50th among medical schools for research, as measured by research activity, research per faculty and faculty resources, among others.
For nursing, the 543-student UMass Medical landed at 79th, tied with Northeastern University and the University of Rhode Island.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute ranked 94th nationally among graduate engineering programs. That was good for seventh in the state, behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1st), Harvard (23rd), Boston University (34th), Northeastern (39th), UMass Amherst (56th) and Tufts (67th).
The U.S. News & World Report rankings, which can be both heavily sought and disputed by colleges, includes various measurements for each specialty. In many cases, that includes acceptance rates, student scores, peer assessment and salaries for graduates.
