UMass Medical to receive $10K for community programming

The UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester has been awarded $10,000 to fund programs to further community health initiatives.

The funds were awarded after the hospital reached a finalist position for the 2019 Foster G. McGaw Prize for its commitment to improving the health and well-being of its community. Although it did not win the final prize, the hospital has been recognized for its staff and diverse community partners who enthusiastically embraced new levels of social well-being by deploying unique and innovative initiatives such as gun buybacks, youth mental health groups, and community gardens.

The Foster G. McGaw Prize recognizes healthcare organizations committed to community service through a range of programs that demonstrate a passion and continuous commitment to making communities healthier and more vital.

The prize is sponsored by the Baxter International Foundation in Illinois, the American Hospital Association and its nonprofit affiliate Health Research & Educational Trust.
