UMass Medical School has renewed a five-year, $30-million clinical and translational sciences award from the National Institutes of Health.
The Worcester school, which announced the renewal Friday, became a member of the 68-member National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences consortium with its first such grant a decade ago. The center advances clinical and translational research through education and training, pilot funding programs, research cores, and services, the school said.
The center works to improve health care by analyzing new ways of doing translational science, helping providers form teams across disciplines, and educating new translational researchers, Dr. Katherine Luzuriaga, the medical school’s vice provost for clinical and translational research, said in a statement.
The UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science has funded the UMass Center for Microbiome Research, the Science Participation Research Center, and the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center, known as M2D2.
