Dr. George Abraham, a professor of medicine at UMass Medical School in Worcester, has been named president of the American College of Physicians, the school announced on Friday.Â

His term began in the spring.
Outside of UMass Medical School, Abraham is chief of medicine and emeritus president of the medical staff at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, as well as an adjunct professor of medicine at the MCPHS University in Worcester.
Abraham, whose professional interest and expertise include internal medicine and infectious disease, holds a medical degree from Christian Medical College in India and a master’s degree in public health from John Hopkins School of Public Health in Maryland.
