The U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services (HHS) on Thursday awarded a $1.03 million grant to Family Health Center of Worcester and the University of Massachusetts Medical School to provide medical and support services to people living with HIV.

U.S. Congressman James McGovern, who announced the grant, said the money will allow both organizations to continue the work of prevention, treatment and research related to HIV.

Family Health will receive $541,951, and the UMass will receive $483,959. The funding is part of more than $2.2 billion in Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program grants awarded in fiscal 2015 to cities, states and local community-based organizations.
