UMass Med To Help Mich. Control Medicaid Costs

The University of Massachusetts Medical School was awarded a three-year, $3 million contract by the state of Michigan to help the state control its Medicaid costs.

The school’s Center for Health Care Financing will be responsible for identifying and attempting to enroll eligible Medicaid recipients in the federal Medicare program.  The center will also ensure that the Medicare premiums paid by the state are accurate.

With Medicaid serving as the cornerstone for expanding health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, UMass Med said states have been taking greater efforts to manage their health care costs.
