UMass Med Students Arrive At Harrington

The first University of Massachusetts Medical School students to study at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge under a recently-signed affiliation agreement arrive this week.

The students will take part in a 6-week rotation and be supervised by Harrington physicians that also hold faculty positions at UMass in Worcester. The students arriving this week are studying psychiatry and will be exposed to both inpatient and outpatient cases.

UMass Medical School students go through clinical training during their third and fourth years of study. During those years, the students serve as members of the hospital's staff and provide direct care to patients under the guidance of school faculty.

Harrington and UMass signed the affiliation agreement making Harrington a teaching hospital in late 2008.
